Crosstrek model year comparison

2026 vs 2027 Subaru Crosstrek: what changed and which one to buy

Subaru kept the 2027 Crosstrek almost exactly where it was: same engines, same body, same prices on all but one trim. The one change most shoppers will feel is that the Sport is now hybrid-only.

The short version

The 2027 Crosstrek starts at $26,995, the same as the 2026. Every trim holds its price except the Limited Hybrid, which goes up $1,000 and now comes with a standard power moonroof. Destination and delivery rises $55, from $1,420 to $1,475.

The gas-powered Crosstrek Sport is gone. If you want Sport styling on a 2027, it comes as the Sport Hybrid.

Sport goes hybrid-only

The 2027 Sport Hybrid keeps the Sport name and look: hybrid-exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels and Sport cloth upholstery with yellow stitching. What it no longer offers is a gas-only version. The Sport Hybrid starts $3,370 above what the 2026 gas Sport did, and in exchange you get the hybrid powertrain along with standard blind-spot detection, a 10-way power driver's seat and a power moonroof.

Moonroof changes for 2027

On the 2026 Limited Hybrid, the moonroof came in an option package. For 2027 it is standard, alongside a $1,000 price increase. The 360-degree surround view monitor that came in that 2026 package is not offered on the 2027. The Sport Hybrid also includes a moonroof as standard. On the Premium and Wilderness it remains part of an option package, and the 2027 Limited adds a new $1,795 package with a moonroof and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon system, an option the 2026 Limited did not offer.

New and retired colors

Alpine Green is gone, replaced by a new Tidepool Teal Pearl. New for 2027, Sapphire Blue Pearl is offered only on hybrid models. On the Limited Hybrid, Pure Red and Lithium Red Pearl are replaced by Ignition Red. If one of the retired colors is the one you want, a 2026 is your only route to it new.

What stayed the same

Gas Crosstreks keep the 2.5-liter Boxer with 180 horsepower, a CVT and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The hybrid powertrain carries over unchanged. For how the Crosstrek stacks up against the competition, see our Crosstrek vs Corolla Cross vs HR-V vs CX-30 comparison.

Should you buy a 2026 or a 2027 Crosstrek?

A 2026 makes sense if

  • You want a gas Crosstrek Sport. It ends with the 2026 model year.
  • You want Alpine Green, or Pure Red or Lithium Red Pearl on a Limited Hybrid.
  • You want a 360-degree surround view monitor. It was available on the 2026 Limited Hybrid and is not offered on the 2027.
  • You want a Limited Hybrid without a moonroof, or at the lower 2026 price.

A 2027 makes sense if

  • You were going to buy the Sport Hybrid or a base, Premium, Limited or Wilderness anyway. Pricing is the same and you get the newer model year.
  • You want a Limited with a moonroof or Harman Kardon audio.
  • You want the Limited Hybrid with a moonroof standard.
  • You like the new Tidepool Teal Pearl or Ignition Red.

Because prices barely moved, the deciding factor is configuration and color, not cost. Remaining 2026 inventory is listed on Frank's Green Tag Specials, and you can browse every new Crosstrek and Crosstrek Hybrid we have in stock.
